Registered Provisional Psychologist
Welcome, I am Andrew Burke, a Registered Provisional Psychologist in Edmonton. I have worked in mental health and forensic settings for over 20 years, providing care, assessments, therapy, and consultation. My experience spans clinical work, research, and program development, with a focus on applying evidence-based approaches in real-world settings. I prioritize practical strategies that help individuals understand themselves and navigate challenges effectively.
Outside of work, I enjoy creative projects, being active, and exploring new technology. I also build Halloween animatronics as a hobby so the neighbourhood kids have something to look forward to every year.
My Assessment Approach
“A good assessment doesn’t just describe—it guides.”
I provide psychological assessments that go beyond just diagnosis; they aim to offer clear, practical strategies tailored to the individual. My assessments focus on two key areas: understanding the problem and developing solutions that work in real-world settings.
Understanding the Problem:
I believe that psychological assessments should do more than assign a label. They should help clarify why challenges exist and how they impact daily life. My approach involves cognitive, academic, emotional, and behavioural assessments to explore underlying difficulties. Whether you’re facing ADHD, learning disabilities, neurodevelopmental differences or mental health concerns, my goal is to provide a thorough evaluation that considers differential diagnosis, co-occurring conditions, and alternative explanations. By striving for a comprehensive and accurate picture, I aim to provide recommendations that are meaningful and relevant to the individual’s needs.
Developing Solutions:
I believe that a diagnosis alone isn’t enough. I design strengths-based, practical recommendations that you, your family or your educator can use. My goal is to turn assessment findings into actionable steps — helping you better understand your challenges and explore ways to navigate them.
My Therapeutic Approach
I practice from a person-centred and integrative framework, drawing on evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Narrative Therapy. I work collaboratively to understand each person’s unique story, patterns and context. From this foundation, I support clients in developing insight and building practical, accessible strategies that promote meaningful and sustainable change.

My role is to create a safe, collaborative space where we explore what is happening and develop solutions together. I draw on scientifically supported approaches to ensure the process is both practical and meaningful in everyday life.
