How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy can help anyone seeking support, clarity, healing, or personal growth. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people attend therapy to manage stress, improve relationships, build coping skills, or better understand themselves.
What can therapy help with?
Our therapists support clients with a wide range of concerns, including:
- Anxiety and stress
- Depression and low mood
- Trauma and PTSD
- Relationship challenges
- Grief and loss
- Self-esteem and confidence
- Burnout and life transitions
- Parenting concerns
- ADHD and emotional regulation
What happens during the first session?
Your first session is an opportunity to get to know your therapist and discuss what brings you to therapy. Together, you’ll explore your goals, ask questions, and begin creating a plan that feels supportive and manageable for you. Before a clinician is able to work with a minor, an intake session with the child’s caregiver(s) must occur.
How long does therapy take?
Every person’s therapy journey is unique. Some clients attend for a few sessions focused on a specific issue, while others choose ongoing support over a longer period of time.
How often should I attend therapy?
Many clients begin with weekly or biweekly sessions. Your therapist will work with you to determine a schedule that best supports your needs and goals.
How do I book an appointment?
If you are a new client, we invite you to contact us through our Contact Page, complete our Best Fit Form, or reach out by phone or email. Our team will help match you with a therapist who best fits your needs and assist with setting up your client file. Once you have been matched and all required consent forms have been completed, appointments can be booked online, by phone, or by email.
Do you offer virtual therapy?
Yes, most clinicians on our team offer secure online therapy sessions for clients who prefer the convenience and comfort of meeting virtually.
Can I choose my therapist?
Absolutely. We encourage clients to review therapist profiles and choose someone who feels like a good fit. If you’d like guidance, we can also provide personalized recommendations.
What if I don’t feel connected to my therapist?
A strong therapeutic relationship is important. If the fit doesn’t feel right, we’re happy to help you connect with another therapist within our clinic or provide you with a referral to another provider.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Appointment availability varies by therapist, and some evening or weekend appointments may be available.
How long are sessions?
Session length will depend on the service you have booked. Typically one clinical hour equals 45 minutes of session time for play therapy, 50 minutes otherwise. The remaining 15 minutes of each hour are dedicated to writing client progress notes and clean up after play therapy sessions.
How much does therapy cost?
Session fees vary depending on the therapist’s credentials and the type of service provided. Current rates are available on our booking page or by contacting the clinic directly.
Is therapy covered by insurance?
Many extended health benefit plans provide coverage for therapy services. Coverage depends on your insurance provider and your therapist’s professional designation.
Do you offer direct billing?
Yes, we can direct bill most insurance providers. If your policy allows direct billing, we will submit claims to participating insurance providers on your behalf whenever possible.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept major credit cards, debit, cash and e-transfer.
Do you offer a sliding scale program?
Limited reduced-fee options may be available depending on therapist availability and financial need. Please Contact Us to see if you qualify for the program.
Are parents involved in children’s therapy?
Parent involvement depends on the child’s age, needs, and treatment goals. Therapists work collaboratively with families while also respecting the child’s privacy and comfort.
Why is a parent intake session necessary?
When a child or teenager begins therapy, a parent or guardian intake session helps the therapist gain a fuller understanding of the young person’s needs, history, and support system. Parents often provide important background information that children or teens may not yet know how to explain themselves.
What is your cancellation policy?
Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the therapists’ day that could have been filled by another client. As such, we require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Clients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged the full fee to the card on file.
What if I’m running late?
If you are running late, please let us know as soon as possible. Sessions may still need to end at the scheduled time to respect other clients’ appointments. If you are going to be 15 minutes late or more the appointment will need to be rescheduled and this will be considered a no-show appointment and a fee will apply.
Can I drop my child off for therapy and leave to run errands?
A caregiver must remain on site throughout the child’s session. One Tree does not provide caregiving services nor will we be able to assist if a child needs to use the washroom.
Is there free parking?
Yes, the building has a few free visitor spaces available, however, if they are full, we recommend parking on the service road along St Albert Trail. Please do not park in assigned stalls, or you may be towed.
Are there washrooms?
Yes, there are washrooms on the second floor of the building down the hall from our clinic. The washrooms require a code to get in. Please visit our waiting room to get the entry codes.
Is the building wheelchair accessible?
Yes, there is an accessible parking space in the parking lot and there is an elevator to get to our office on the second floor.
Can I wear my shoes?
To ensure cleanliness of the clinic, we ask that you please remove footwear upon entering. Because of this, we ask that everyone wears socks. If you cannot wear socks, please bring a pair of slippers to put on while at the clinic.
We understand that starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and we’re here to help make the process as comfortable as possible.
If you have any additional questions, please Contact Us directly. Our team would be happy to support you in finding the right fit for your care.
