Counselling Therapist Intern
I am Ashleigh Murasiranwa, a counselling therapist intern in Edmonton. I am currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. Before that I completed a Bachelor in Elementary Education, and still currently work as a teacher. During my undergraduate studies I spent time volunteering at CASA House in Sherwood Park where I developed a strong passion for supporting children, youth, and families in their mental health journeys. I work with children, youth, teens, adults, and families and place a strong emphasis on building genuine, trusting connections. I strive to provide culturally responsive and inclusive care that honours each individual’s unique experiences and background. I support clients navigating life transitions, ADHD, ASD, anxiety, depression, and a range of emotional and relational challenges.
My Therapeutic Approach
My approach to counselling is compassionate and client centred as I prioritize creating a safe and supportive environment where my clients feel heard, understood, and valued. I draw from therapeutic approaches such as person-centred, narrative therapy, experiential therapy, and Adlerian therapy to ensure that I can meet the unique needs of each individual client. I also incorporate play-based approaches and am completing my certification in play therapy.
I approach therapy with an awareness of how cultural and social experiences shape identities, relationships, and well-being. My experience working with diverse children, youth and families allow me to provide care that is inclusive, respectful, and responsive to each client’s cultural background.

My approach is guided by each individual’s strengths and challenges with care that caters to what matters most to them.
Why Choose to Work With Me?
I am committed to creating a warm, supportive space where you or your child feels comfortable being themselves. With my background in education, I bring a strong understanding of child and youth development, as well as experience supporting individuals in real-world settings. I value building authentic relationships with people I work with and approach each session with empathy, curiosity, and respect. My goal is to support my clients in feeling understood and empowered as clients navigate challenges and move towards their goals.
